Individual or Small Group
Enrichment Investigations
All of the links below are for documents that
can be downloaded to your computer. They can be used as is or changed to
suit the project.
The materials
were designed to support individual or small group enrichment projects
within the classroom or in conjunction with the subject teachers,
librarian, or enrichment coordinator. For example:
- A student or group
expresses an interest in investigating a topic or doing a project.
- Student or group
completes the “Idea Action” form that is given to the classroom,
subject or enrichment teacher.
- The idea is discussed
with the student using the “Idea Interview” form.
- A “Research Planner”
or “Project Contract” is completed to begin the investigation.
- A project folder is
obtained from the librarian to organize student research. All
forms and research material will be kept in the folder to easily
track the progress of the investigation. A “Student Checklist” is
also kept in the folder.
- At the end of the
investigation, a “Product Map” form is completed to help guide the
student or students in creating a product to demonstrate what was
learned.

The students
work toward becoming experts on their topics. Questions to help them
formulate their ideas are:
- What do I want to
investigate?
- What resources do I
need?
- Where can I find my
information?
- Have I used more than
one resource for my information?
- Have I used a
research journal to take notes?
- Did I answer my
research question?
- Did I find out what I
wanted to know?
|
From the
research, the students create a product that demonstrates their
knowledge. Tips for a great product are:
- Is this your work?
- Is it neat and
organized?
- Is it attractive and
colorful?
- Is it clear and
easily understood?
- Is it interesting and
meaningful to the audience?
- Does it show
imagination, creativity and originality.
- Does it show your
excitement and interest?
- Does it give credit
to the resources used?
