Internet Safety for Parents

*  Take responsibility for your child’s online computer use to avoid any potential risks.

*  Never let a child use the Internet unsupervised.

*  For easy monitoring, consider placing your computer in a family room rather than a child’s bedroom.

*  Continually remind your child not to give out any personal information about you, or your family.

*  Encourage your child to report anything to you that makes them feel uncomfortable.

*  No child should be in a chat room without your consent.

*  Remember people online may not be who they seem to be. Sometimes adults pretend to be kids.

*  Set reasonable rules for computer use and the amount of time spent online by your child.

*  Get to know the services your child uses. Refer to the library web page (www.buckleycountryday.org/library) for safe search engines for kids.

*  Emphasize to your children that not everything they read on the Internet is true.
